We Uncover Films PRESENTS

THE OTHER

Premiering 2024

A documentary exploring the complex relationship of shared humanity, culture and connection between Israelis & Palestinians—and the transformative journey that follows when they are faced with meeting ‘the other’ amidst the difficulty of the conflict & occupation—providing an extraordinary example of what we are all capable of as humans.

About

Filmed from 2017-2023, The Other focuses on Israeli & Palestinian peace-builders, anti-occupation activists, artists, academics, ex-fighters, bereaved parents and many more living the reality on the ground. Whether in non-violent co-resistance, peace-building, or shared community, we witness those who have only known each other through hate, bloodshed, inequality, and war, transcend beyond narratives & belief systems. They teach us that unlearning deep-seated conditioning is possible and that we can liberate ourselves from generational trauma, hatred and fear—no matter how ingrained and legitimate those fears are.

*The Other was made before the attacks of October 7, 2023 and the subsequent war. Given the enormity of recent events, this film's message of humanity has become even more relevant. In the face of such atrocities and polarization, The Other showcases another reality, an entire ecosystem of activists working together towards a better future.

Every element of the film transports the viewer—from the sweeping landscape footage, to the raw storytelling, to the original score composed by an Israeli/Palestinian duo. Jewish Israeli-American Director, Joy Sela is closely intertwined with Israel/Palestine and the multiple narratives represented in this documentary. After spending years on the ground, we have procured a tightly-wound network of trusted experts in the peace-building & activist communities, from large scale NGOs to grassroots joint movements. These experts are here to continue consulting and supporting—ensuring the film's maximum social impact without creating additional volatility due to the sensitive nature of the topic and cultural nuances.

You usually don’t see a film about the reality of the conflict & occupation and a film about hope in one. This film does that and does it well.

I had to keep checking my own prejudices as I watched it, which is rare for a film to be able to do.

This movie chooses hope. It chooses to examine genuine love and connection between groups that normally do not get visibility as having partnership and connection.

Really nailed the human side of things. It was amazing just to hear people have a dialogue and conversation- that’s what we’ve lost. The ability to just have a discussion.
